Ah, the joys of packing. Whether you’re moving across town or across the country, there’s nothing like the feeling of being surrounded by boxes and bags full of your most precious possessions. And while you don’t think that any human being actually enjoys doing it, there are ways to make packing a little easier on yourself—and that includes downgrading what you’re taking with you in order to reduce the amount of stuff you have to cart from Point A to Point B.

The first set of things to get rid of are those you never really needed in the first place.

These are things that served as “someday” items, or that you kept because they were gifts.

As a rule of thumb, if you haven’t used something in the last six months, chances are you won’t need it anytime soon. If an item is broken or doesn’t work, get rid of it right away—but keep any parts that might still be useful later on.

The next set of things to get rid of are those you needed at one time, but no longer do.

If you haven’t used it in six months, get rid of it. If you haven’t used it in a year, get rid of it. If you haven’t used it in two years, also get rid of it (if your item is an appliance or larger piece of furniture). You don’t need these items anymore and they’re taking up space that doesn’t belong to them.

The last category is things that are sentimental value only — meaning they have no monetary value whatsoever and aren’t useful at all; they just make me feel good when I see them (or smell them or touch them) because they remind you of your childhood or some other significant event or person in your life. These items should be kept for two reasons: 1) They’re valuable reminders about where you’ve been and can therefore help you stay grounded when you’re feeling overwhelmed with stress during downsizing our lives; 2) They might be worth something someday! For example if you were moving across country and had no room for most furniture but wanted something from your old apartment as a souvenir (and knew there was someone back home who would love and care for this thing), then perhaps there would be something worthwhile staying behind — provided that this “thing” had sentimental value beyond its monetary worth (because otherwise why wouldn’t you just sell everything?).

When deciding whether or not something has sentimental value only rather than both sentimental AND monetary value consider asking yourself these questions: 1) How often do you use this item? 2) What else could/would fulfill this purpose instead? 3) Would anyone else want/use this item more than you if you didn’t keep it around anymore?

The third set of things to get rid of are those you’re holding onto for a rainy day.

If it’s been three years and you haven’t used something, chances are that it’s time to let go.

For example, if your husband left his favorite coffee mug at the office and no longer wants to drink out of it, he probably won’t miss it when he sees it packed away in the closet when he gets back home. Don’t hesitate—just toss them in the trash or donate them right away!

The fourth set of things to get rid of are your sentimental items.

The thought of parting with your sentimental items can be incredibly difficult. Tossing out a cherished piece of jewelry or an old teddy bear may feel like losing a dear friend. But if you’ve followed the first three steps in this process, you should have already eliminated most of the things that no longer bring you joy. What’s left are those items that hold sentimental value for you but don’t add any substantial benefit to your life. If they aren’t making you happy or helping you reach your goals, then it’s time to say goodbye and move on.

Keepsakes, mementos and knickknacks that remind us of our pasts—and sometimes weigh us down in our present day lives as well!

You’ll feel less overwhelmed about packing if you downsize ahead of time.

When you downsize before your move, it’ll be that much easier to pack. Packaging and labeling boxes can take a lot of time and effort.

Our experts have found that there are three main benefits of downsizing:

  • You’ll feel less overwhelmed about packing if you downsize ahead of time
  • You’ll be able to pack more efficiently if you downsize ahead of time
  • You’ll save money by downsizing ahead of time

Conclusion

If you want to make packing for your next trip easier, it’s best to start de-cluttering now. You’ll feel less overwhelmed about packing if you downsize ahead of time. Plus, your new minimalist lifestyle will help you focus on the things that really matter—like spending time with friends and family.

Managing a million tasks with limited time can be overwhelming, but you are not the only one feeling this way. Many people can relate to the fact that relocating is usually among the most demanding experiences in life.

To make the long-distance moving process seamless, we have compiled a list of people’s most common errors before and during the move. We have also provided tips on how to prevent them.

Not Making Arrangements for a Moving Company Ahead of Time

Neglecting to reserve a mover in advance can have negative consequences. Planning and booking a mover sooner rather than later is essential to avoid problems and stress later.

It is best to reserve your move as early as possible, particularly during the peak moving season (May until early September). Not only will this help you feel more in control of the situation, but it will also minimize the risk of working with a mover who makes grand promises but doesn’t deliver.

Currently, the relocation business is witnessing a surge in the number of “scam” movers that exploit their customers’ faith – demanding a higher payment for their belongings or not even appearing on the day of the move. At Liberty Moving & Storage, we’ve created a checklist to help you sidestep these untrustworthy “grifters” and guarantee your belongings are in the hands of reliable professionals.

If you are searching for more advice, why not ask your recently moved friends for referrals? You can also check online reviews and contact various moving companies for more details and estimates. You can get a free, no-obligation quote from us immediately for a quick start!

Failing to Have a Strategy in Place

Lots of individuals experience anxiety when it comes to moving. Often, they will put off the process until it becomes too overwhelming. Fortunately, Liberty Moving & Storage has a solution. They provide a helpful Move Checklist that you can download to help guide you through the transition step by step. This checklist removes the guesswork and stress from planning the move.

Having an excessively ambitious agenda when it comes to travel plans

Driving from New York to Florida in a single day is not recommended, even if possible. Moving is physically and mentally challenging, so it’s best to avoid a long and tiring journey that could make it more complicated.

If your journey to your new city is not short (more than eight hours), incorporate some stops along the way. See to it that you have secure and pleasant lodgings booked in advance so that you can take the time to relax and recuperate. This also applies when flying; book your tickets early to avoid additional expenses and tension due to last-minute bookings.

Having a reliable mechanic give your car a tune-up is recommended to ensure the ignition, fuel, heating systems, and parts are functioning correctly. If you are in a cold winter climate, buy snow tires.

Forgetting To Bring Necessities When Moving

It is vital to keep a few essential items with you, regardless of your mode of transport to your new home. These can include crucial documents such as passports, driver’s licenses, and medical records; items that are difficult to replace, such as jewelry; and everyday items like prescription medications and phone chargers. It’s also wise to get additional refills for your prescriptions.

If you’re embarking on a drive to your new residence with children, it’s wise to let them bring a beloved game or toy. Providing light snacks and beverages is also a great plan to keep hunger at bay. If you have infants, remember to bring diapers; if they use a formula, pack that too. Lastly, if you have pets, remember to think of their needs.

Supposing That Anything Can Be Transported in the Truck

Liberty Moving & Storage, like other reputable movers, won’t move dangerous materials such as explosives, combustible gases, or chemicals. It is essential to get rid of these items ahead of time to follow state, federal, and local laws and protect the environment. Still uncertain? Seek assistance from your city or county representatives.

Having No Secondary Option

It is often advised to have a “Plan B” in place if the primary plan does not work out. However, there are situations where not having a backup plan can be advantageous.

No matter how well-organized a move may be, there is always potential for disruptions. To account for this, it is crucial to give yourself some wiggle room to account for any unexpected circumstances, such as inclement weather. Move-out and move-in dates tend to have a delivery window, meaning they may not be set in stone and can change. Don’t panic if this happens–a reliable mover like Liberty Moving & Storage will get everything back on track in no time. The most important thing to keep in mind? Be prepared for the unexpected, and make sure anyone involved in the move is aware of any modifications to the plan.

ST. LOUIS – Jan. 2, 2023 – United Van Lines released the company’s 46th Annual National Movers Study today, which indicates Americans continued to move to lower-density areas accelerated by lifestyle preferences such as a career change, retirement and wanting to be closer to family.

According to the results of the study, which tracks the company’s exclusive data for customers’ state-to-state migration patterns, Vermont saw the highest percentage of inbound migration (77%) for the second consecutive year. However, for the fifth consecutive year, the study found that more residents moved out of New Jersey than any other state, as 67% of New Jersey moves were outbound, which is down from the five-year trend of 70%.

The study and its accompanying survey, which examines the motivations and influences for Americans’ interstate moves, also revealed more Baby Boomers and Gen Xers moved than any other age group last year, as those aged 55 and older accounted for more than 55% of all inbound United Van Lines moves in 2022. Additionally, the survey shows the top motivations for inbound moves include a desire to be closer to family (35%, and continues to be a primary driver post-COVID), a new job/company transfer (33%, which continues to decrease as a driver post-COVID) and retirement (20%).

Oregon followed Vermont as a top inbound state for 2022 with an inbound percentage of 67%. In the Northeastern region of United States, several states – including Rhode Island (66%), Delaware (61%) and Washington, D.C. (59%) – were popular moving destinations in 2022. Southeastern states continued to see a high percentage of moves, including South Carolina (61%), North Carolina (61%) and Alabama (58%).

“Key factors like retirement, wanting to be closer to family and lifestyle changes influenced by the pandemic along with current housing prices drove moving patterns in 2022,” Michael A. Stoll, economist and professor in the Department of Public Policy at the University of California, Los Angeles, said. “The United Van Lines study encompasses data that Americans are now moving from bigger to smaller cities, mostly in the South, some in the West, but even an increase of migration to the Northeast, which has not been typical. We’re also seeing younger Millennials migrating to vibrant, metropolitan economies, like Washington, D.C. and Portland, Oregon.”

Additionally, Delaware, North Carolina and New Mexico (58%) joined the list of top 10 inbound states in 2022. Delaware and New Mexico cited retirement as a top motivation for moving to the states. Contrary, Wyoming (57%) and Pennsylvania (57%) joined the list of top 10 outbound states last year. Moving for a new job/company transfer is cited as the top motivation for moving out of those states.

“Our United Van Lines study and survey offers year-over-year insights into where and why Americans are moving,” United Van Lines Vice President of Corporate Communications, Eily Cummings, said. “For the last several years, Idaho was a top destination, as Americans migrated from Northern California, Washington and even Oregon due to a similar lifestyle in the state. With an influx of new residents, housing prices and other living costs start to increase over time, and these popular destinations become hot spots for inflation. As a result, the study underscored that Americans are moving from expensive cities to lower-density, more affordable regions.”

Moving In

The top inbound states of 2022 were:

  1. Vermont
  2. Oregon
  3. Rhode Island
  4. South Carolina
  5. Delaware
  6. North Carolina
  7. Washington, D.C.
  8. South Dakota
  9. New Mexico
  10. Alabama

Of the top ten inbound states, four — Vermont, Oregon, South Dakota and New Mexico — are among the least densely populated states in America, with less than 100 people per square mile. South Dakota and New Mexico are among the top 10.

Moving Out

The top outbound states for 2022 were:

  1. New Jersey
  2. Illinois
  3. New York
  4. Michigan
  5. Wyoming
  6. Pennsylvania
  7. Massachusetts
  8. Nebraska
  9. Louisiana
  10. California

Balanced

Several states saw nearly the same number of residents moving inbound as outbound.

Missouri and Nevada are among these “balanced states.”

Since 1977, United Van Lines annually tracks migration patterns on a state-by-state basis. The 2022 study is based on household moves handled by the UniGroup network (parent company of United Van Lines) within the 48 contiguous states and Washington, D.C. and ranks states based off the inbound and outbound percentages of total moves in each state. United classifies states as “high inbound” if 55 percent or more of the moves are going into a state, “high outbound” if 55 percent or more moves were coming out of a state or “balanced” if the difference between inbound and outbound is negligible.

Introduction

Moving out of your apartment can be stressful, but it doesn’t need to be! There are a lot of things to think about when planning your move-out day—from cleaning up and putting your belongings in storage, to making sure that you’re covered with insurance. To help you save time and stress on moving day, here are some tips for planning ahead:

Plan for post-move cleaning

  • Plan to do a thorough cleaning of your apartment before you leave. This will help ensure that there are no unpleasant surprises when it comes time to move out.
  • Clean the carpets, floors, windows and walls of the apartment before moving day. Make sure that you’re not just vacuuming up dust bunnies—get down on hands and knees with a scrub brush so that every inch of floor is clean as a whistle! Don’t forget about cleaning appliances like refrigerators and ovens either; if something goes wrong once you’re gone (like an appliance breaks down), your landlord could hold you responsible for repairs or replacements even though they were functional when you moved in (and therefore part of what they charged rent).

Schedule a final walk through

The best way to ensure you get your security deposit back is to schedule a final walk through. This is when you and the landlord go over the apartment together, inspecting it for damage and making sure everything is clean. If there are any damages or if you weren’t able to clean up properly before moving out, this is the time for them to be pointed out so that you can agree on how they’ll be fixed and what will happen with your security deposit.

If there’s anything left behind in the apartment—like dishes or cleaning supplies—you should leave them there so that they’re not damaged by movers and other people who are going into your room after move out day. It’s also very important that all belongings get accounted for during this walkthrough (including loose change) so make sure everything has been packed properly!

Make sure you’re covered with insurance

It’s important to check with your landlord and the moving company about insurance coverage. Do they have insurance for their employees? Do you need to buy your own?

Check for insurance coverage on the items that are being moved. It’s also a good idea to check with companies like cable, phone and utility companies about covering damage done by their workmen during installation of new equipment or upgrades.

Everything must go

  • Donate items that you no longer need. You can find a list of local charities on our website and schedule a pickup for any large items you’re willing to give away.
  • Sell items that you don’t need any more, but that could still be useful to others.
  • Throw away things you don’t need anymore and are unlikely to want again in the future, like old magazines or broken electronics.
  • Keep only what’s necessary for your new life—and make sure everything is in good condition!

Be there for the movers to load & unload

It’s important to be there for the movers to load and unload your belongings. If you’re moving yourself, it’s also a good idea to be around in case something gets damaged or lost. This way, if you notice an item that isn’t packed properly or something seems amiss while they’re loading up the truck (or when they arrive at your new place), you can point it out before they leave.

If you aren’t moving yourself, then this step is especially important—you’ll need to sign off on everything being loaded and unloaded so that none of your stuff gets left behind at the old place (or accidentally taken by mistake). This is especially important if there are things about which you’re unsure: for example, if one housemate claims she packed an antique vase but another housemate claims she took it with her when she moved out months ago. It’s not just about making sure everyone has their stuff; it’s also about making sure everyone knows what belongs where!

Don’t procrastinate on moving day essentials

One of the most important things to do before move-out day is to make sure you have a place for everything. Make sure that all of your belongings are safely stored and organized so that you know exactly where everything is. If you don’t have enough space in your apartment or house, consider renting a storage unit or moving into student housing until after graduation when you can finally unpack all of your stuff.

Another tip is to remember where your car keys are if they’re not already in their designated spot on the key ring! On move out day, it’s easy to forget those small details like this – but it’s important not to forget them because otherwise how will you get around? You’ll want both sets of keys and any other essentials ready for action before heading out the door.

If possible, try making reservations at least two weeks in advance so that everyone has plenty of time managing their busy schedules without feeling rushed or stressed out by sudden changes in plans due cumulatively over time (examples include: finding temporary housing arrangements before moving into dorms).

Don’t forget the important things

  • Turn off the utilities.
  • Take out the trash.
  • Turn off the water.
  • Clean and sanitize your fridge, oven, and stove.
  • Remove all furniture from your apartment.
  • Remove all decorations from your apartment (except for those that are easily removable).

Moving out of your apartment can be stressful. You need to plan ahead and in advance.

Moving out of your apartment can be stressful. You need to plan ahead and in advance. Here are some tips on how to make this process easier on yourself:

  • If you have a lot of stuff, consider renting a truck or moving van so that you don’t have to move it all by yourself.
  • Start packing early, and pack in small batches so it doesn’t overwhelm you.
  • Get everything out of storage as soon as possible, even if it is just part of what’s there—the sooner the better!

Conclusion

Preparation is key to a successful, stress-free move. And if you’ve hired a professional moving company like Liberty Moving & Storage, your move coordinator will be there to answer any questions you may have leading up to the big day and can also provide you with other essential checklists along the way.

While the months between May and September are typically peak season for long-distance moves, circumstances — including a new job or a desire to lower moving costs — can find you planning your move during wintertime.

Winter months — December, January, February — are off-peak for moving companies, which can mean more competitive pricing and a wider range of move dates from which to choose. As long as you’re willing to take a few extra steps and precautions to ensure a smooth journey, there’s no problem.

Consider these six winter moving tips to help keep you on track.

Moving During the Winter Months

  • Keep an Eye on the Weather
Though it’s always wise to plan and manage your move as far ahead as possible, winter weather is at best unpredictable and requires some additional — sometimes sudden — precautions. It’s important to keep an eye on the weather forecasts projected for both ends of your move, especially the week leading up to your move date and until the movers are scheduled to arrive.

Keep in mind that a snowstorm or blizzard might force you to reschedule, so be sure you’re in touch with your move coordinator throughout this crucial period. That way, everyone remains on the same page and you can have a backup plan should the weather postpone your move date. Above all? Keep calm and be flexible.
  • Clear the Walkways and Driveway
Regardless of the time of year you move, having a clear path into and out of your current and new homes makes moving a lot safer and less stressful. It’s always a good idea to visit your new home before move-in day to take note of any potential hazards. This is especially important in winter when ice, snow and slush can make conditions slippery.

Clear all walkways of ice and snow and salt or use sand on pathways. Also, check to make sure you’re not parking on a scheduled plow route. Besides, you don’t want your movers trudging through muddied snowbanks and slush while loading and unloading your belongings.

If you can’t get to your new home prior to your move date, have your realtor or property manager check on these things for you. Lastly, just as you did at your new residence, clear snow, ice or anything that could be a potential hazard from the walkways, driveway and street at your current home.
  • Keep Winter Wear Close at Hand
Even if you hire a full-service moving company like Liberty Moving & Storage to move your belongings, you still may find yourself exposed to chilly temperatures over the course of the move day. Wear layers of warm clothing so you can take off and put on items as you go from house to car and room to room. Make sure you have warm gloves — including some extra pairs for layering — if the snow or cold picks up. If there’s sleet or snow in your moving day forecast, pack a few changes of clothes and blankets in your first night kit.
  • Protect Floors and Carpeting
Before you’re even settled, tracked-in sludge, snow, ice and mud can make a mess of your new home — not to mention what rock salt and sand can do to your new floors. When you’re moving in winter, it’s wise to place floor mats at entrances to all outside doors and plastic tarps over wood and tile floors. If your new home has wall-to-wall carpeting, use cardboard sheets to cover walkways.

Keep in mind, most professional moving companies will come prepared because they understand how important it is to help protect highly trafficked areas in your home.
  • Stock Up on Winter Supplies
You never know when you’ll need to dig your way out of a snowy situation — either on-site or on the way. At both your current and future homes, keep salt and sand readily available, along with a shovel to clear driveways. If you have a snow blower handy, that’s even better. Also consider having a space heater accessible just in case temperatures get super-low and you need to provide supplemental heat near an entrance or cold zone — but watch it carefully.
  • Make Sure Utilities Are Turned on and Functioning
The last thing you want is to show up at your new residence in the dead of winter with no working heat or lighting. Winter days are shorter, which means you’ll have less daylight to work with on move-in day. There’s also the possibility that, with a postponed move, the utility schedule you set up beforehand may have to be revised.  Whatever the circumstances, be sure your heat, water, electricity and other essentials are on and in good working order approximately two days before you move in.

Moving across state lines is more complex than moving within the same city or state. The moving process demands more time and effort. Without preparation, obstacles could come as a surprise to you and your family. Having said that, you are probably aware of the basics of moving, such as packing tips to make moving day more convenient.

However, when you are in the middle of a big interstate move, it’s natural to become overwhelmed. Below, here’s an interstate moving guide because you can never get enough help and reminders of the essentials.

#1 Interstate Moving Costs

It is no secret that moving is costly. Although there are several ways to cut costs, such as repurposing old boxes, an interstate move will unavoidably cost more than a local one. Here are what you need to consider when it comes to costs:

  • Insurance. With a long journey ahead of you, you want to safeguard yourself and your possessions by securing insurance. Some interstate moving company covers insurance, so be sure to ask.
  • Interstate moving company. Movers can literally do all the heavy lifting for you during your big move, from packing to transporting and unloading. Depending on your needs and wants, an interstate moving company could be flexible.
  • Storage. In an interstate move, storage isn’t optional. Packing all your belongings, including appliances and furniture, then getting them into your new home in one day is impossible. You need to secure them elsewhere during the time between your move-out and move-in.
  • Temporary accommodation. This can be optional if you can settle into your new home while waiting for your belongings to arrive.
  • Food. It would be best if you cleared your pantry and fridge before you moved. Hence you may need to eat out more frequently before and after your interstate move.
  • Utilities. You may need to pay all your utility providers a disconnection or termination fee.

#2 Interstate Moving Due Diligence

To make your move as smooth as possible, you’ll need to take care of some vital tasks. So before your interstate relocation, make sure to work out the following details:

  • Transfer your driver’s license. Be prepared to have to transfer your license. In select states, you have 90 days to apply for a new driver’s license after migrating. So ideally, you want to start the process before relocation to avoid stressing about the deadline.
  • Update your car registration. You might need to re-register your car at your new address, just like you would with your driver’s license.
  • Switch banks. If your bank is a local company, you might be required to open a new bank account in your new state. Before you leave, explore your options.
  • Enroll your children in school. Before moving interstate, you’ll probably need to get a transfer certificate and gather additional data regarding your child’s academic progress. Contact their new school to learn more about the transfer procedure.
  • Don’t forget your pets. Moving can be much more complicated when you have pets, especially when moving by plane. Be sure to familiarize yourself with the airline’s policy and secure any paperwork needed for your beloved pets.
  • Update your documents. Take the time to review all your documents and identify those you need to update concerning your new address.

#3 Interstate Moving Challenges

While preparation can limit issues, there are factors out of your control that you need to take into consideration.

  • Weather conditions. You need to consider the distance when moving across state lines. When you are moving to a neighboring state or across multiple states, there will be a shift in the weather conditions. As such, you want movers who are prepared to operate safely in whatever circumstances.
  • Tight schedule. You are packed with meetings during a move, from your arrangement with the interstate moving company to final doctor’s appointments. It can be hectic and tricky to keep up. Especially if you throw in a little hiccup in the mix, try to account for the unexpected when managing your schedule.
  • Prices. While we have already tackled some significant aspects of the cost of an interstate move, be reminded that fees can also become a challenge. Just like with your schedule, secure a cushion in your moving budget in case something happens.

If you’re considering a move, you may be wondering if local moving services are right for you. There are several benefits to using local movers, including convenience, expertise, and cost-effectiveness. You can research reputable local moving services online or ask for recommendations from friends or family. Be sure to check that any company you’re considering is certified and licensed.

Once you’ve chosen a company, schedule a consultation and get a moving quote. Finally, prepare the moving process by decluttering and packing up your belongings.

The benefits of using local moving services

Convenience

Local moving services are convenient because they can provide you with full service. This means that you don’t have to worry about renting a truck or trailer, or finding a place to store your belongings while you’re in transit.

Local movers can also help you with packing and unpacking, which can save you a lot of time and hassle. And if you need storage during your move, many local moving companies offer this service as well.

Expertise

When you use local moving services, you can be confident that your belongings will be handled with care on moving day. Local movers are trained to properly wrap and protect your furniture and other items, so they arrive at your new home in the same condition as when they left.

In addition, local moving companies have the experience and knowledge to navigate through narrow streets, tight corners, and other challenges that come with moving in urban areas. This can give you peace of mind knowing that your move will go smoothly.

Cost

Hiring local movers can actually save you money in the long run.

While it may seem like a good idea to try DIY moving or get help from friends and family, this often ends up costing more in the end due to damage or lost items.

How to find reputable local moving services

Research

One of the best ways to find out if a local moving company is reputable is to research them online. Read customer reviews, check out their website, and see if they are accredited by the Better Business Bureau. You should also make sure that the company is insured and licensed.

Recommendations

Another great way to find reputable local movers is to ask your friends, family, or neighbors for recommendations. If someone you trust has had a good experience with a particular company, then chances are you will too.

Certification and licensing

All reputable local moving companies should be certified and licensed by the Department of Transportation (DOT). This means that they have met all of the necessary safety requirements and have been approved to operate in your state.

How to prepare for your move with local movers

Schedule a consultation

It is important to schedule a consultation with your local movers in order to discuss your specific needs and expectations for delivery dates. This will allow you to get an accurate estimate of the cost of the move, as well as ensure that the movers are aware of any special instructions that you may have.

Get an estimate

After you have scheduled a consultation with your chosen local moving company, be sure to get an estimate in writing before confirming the move. This estimate should include all fees and charges associated with the move, so that there are no surprises later on.

Prepare your home

Once you have chosen your local moving company and confirmed the details of the move, it is time to start preparing your home for the big day. Be sure to declutter and deep clean beforehand, so that the movers can do their job quickly and efficiently. Also, make sure to label all boxes clearly and create a floor plan so that everyone knows where to load and unload at your new home.

Conclusion

If you’re considering using local moving services for your next move, there are a few things you should keep in mind. Local movers can offer convenience, expertise, and piece of mind that DIY moves simply can’t match. To find reputable local moving services like Liberty Moving and Storage, do your research, ask for recommendations, and make sure they’re certified and licensed.

And finally, to prepare for your move with local movers, schedule a consultation, get an estimate, and prepare your home. With just a little bit of planning, you can ensure that your moving experience smoothly and stress-free.

There are many different storage solutions available on the market today. Choosing the right one for your home can be a difficult task. This blog post will help you understand the different types of custom storage solutions and what factors you need to consider when making your decision.

The Different Types of Storage Solutions

Indoor Storage

The first type of storage solution is indoor storage. This can be a great option if you have a lot of household items and you need to store it in a safe place. Indoor storage solutions include things like cabinets, shelves, and bins.

One advantage of indoor storage is that it is usually more affordable than outdoor storage. Indoor storage can also be a good option if you live in an area with extreme weather conditions, as it can protect your belongings from the elements.

However, there are some disadvantages to indoor storage. One downside is that it can take up a lot of space in your home. Additionally, indoor storage solutions are not always as durable as outdoor storage, so they may not last as long.

Outdoor Storage

Outdoor storage solutions are the second type of storage solution. This can be a great option if you need to store large items or if you live in an area with mild weather conditions. Outdoor storage solutions include things like sheds, garages, and carports.

One advantage of outdoor storage is that it usually provides more space than indoor storage options. Additionally, outdoor storage can be more durable than indoor storage, meaning that your belongings will be better protected from the elements and from wear and tear.

There are some disadvantages to outdoor storage solutions as well, however. One downside is that they can be more expensive than indoor storage options. Additionally, outdoor storage solutions are not always as convenient as indoor storage options since they require you to go outside to access your belongings.

Factors to Consider When Choosing a Storage Solution

The Amount of Materials You Have

If you have a lot of items, you’ll need a storage solution that can accommodate all of it. Indoor storage solutions like closets and attics are usually best for small to medium-sized collections. Outdoor storage like sheds and garages are better for larger collections. Portable storage solutions like storage containers and portable closets are great for people who move frequently or have a lot of household goods that they need to access regularly.

The Type of Stuff You Have

The type of furniture, memorabilia or even antiques you have will also dictate the kind of storage solution you need. If you have fragile items or items that need to be temperature-controlled, indoor storage solutions are usually best. Outdoor storage solutions are better for bulky items that can withstand the elements. Portable storage solutions are great for small items that need to be easily accessible.

How Often You Need to Access Your Items

Another factor to consider is how often you need to access your stuff. If you only need to access your material occasionally, any type of storage solution will work. However, if you need to access your things on a regular basis, indoor and outdoor storage might not be ideal because they require more effort to get to your items. Portable storage solutions like storage bins and portable closets are great for people who need to access regularly because they can be easily moved and accessed without having to go through the hassle of unpacking everything each time.

The Pros and Cons of the Different Storage Solutions

Indoor Storage

Indoor storage solutions are great for protecting your belongings from the elements and also keeping them close at hand. However, they can be more expensive than outdoor storage, and you may need to rent space in a self-storage facility if you don’t have enough room in your home.

Outdoor Storage

Outdoor storage solutions are a great option if you’re looking for something more affordable than indoor storage. However, you’ll need to make sure that your belongings are well-protected from the weather and pests. You may also need to rent space in a storage shed or garage if you don’t have enough room on your property.

Portable Storage

Portable storage solutions are a great option if you need to store your belongings while you’re moving or traveling. They’re also usually more affordable than indoor or outdoor storage. However, you’ll need to make sure that your belongings are well-protected from the elements and pests, and you may need to rent space in a self-storage facility if you don’t have enough room in your home or on your property.

Conclusion

There are a lot of different storage solutions available on the market, and it can be difficult to know which one is right for your home. The three main types of storage are indoor, outdoor, and portable storage. When choosing a storage solution, you need to consider the amount of things you have, the type of stuff you have, and how often you need to access your materials. Each type of storage solution has its own pros and cons that you need to take into account before making a decision.

Moving internationally is an exciting prospect for many people who might have changed their careers and received a better opportunity abroad.

Many people find the prospect of moving internationally very exciting, especially if it means a better career opportunity. If you’re planning to move overseas, be sure to create a checklist of everything you’ll need to take with you.

You need to consider international moving tips to make the process easier so you can have a stress-free experience moving across international borders.

Let’s explore some tips to help you prepare for this transition.

Get Your Documents Ready

Moving internationally can be stressful and exciting, which means that you need to prepare thoroughly and prepare a list of all the documents you will need while traveling long distances.

Moving abroad can be a daunting task. You’ve got to pack up your life and ship it across the world, which is stressful enough. But when you throw customs clearance into the mix, things can get even more complicated.

You might have all the necessary documents with you, but what if they’re not in order? It could result in delays at customs clearance and being held up for hours while you sort out your paperwork.

The key to avoiding these problems is to make sure that you have all of your documentation ready before you move abroad. Make sure that everything is labelled correctly and that it’s easy to find when you need it at a later date.

Carry a file with you that include documents like your driving license, birth certificate, passport, social security cards, etc.

Organize Your Things

You need to create a checklist for all of the things you are taking with you in your suitcase so that you do not leave any necessary things behind.

You should also create a timeline for completing several tasks as you get closer to your moving date, so that you do not leave anything unfinished at the last minute and can take the appropriate steps to ensure the process of moving internationally is smooth and hassle-free.

You may want to research the cost of storage if you’re thinking of handling your belongings by yourself and look into hiring a professional international moving company.

Hire an International Moving Company

Suppose you’ve applied for permanent residency or attained citizenship in a foreign country. In that case, you may be moving all of your household goods from your current home, which is a difficult process to undertake by yourself, resulting in the need to hire an international moving company.

Liberty Moving is a professional moving and storage company that makes the moving process easier by doing most of the work for you especially if your planning on international relocation.

Liberty is experienced in handling delicate items and have a keen eye for spotting things you might need abroad.

Set up a home survey and let them scope out your home so they can help you review the moving process and highlight any details you might be overlooking like international shipping.

Moving overseas can be a challenging process. You will need to pack up your entire home, hire an international moving company and then unpack everything in a new country. As you’re packing, it’s easy to forget about items that you may have left behind in your garage or basement. These professional movers can point out these necessary items and ensure that you don’t leave anything behind when you move internationally.

Do your research to find a reputable international moving company, as there are many scammers and incompetent people posing as professionals.

You should also ensure that the company you hire is licensed and insured so you can hold them accountable for any potential damages while moving.

Final Verdict

Your global move can be made much easier by hiring Liberty Moving & Storage for all your international moving service needs to make the process much easier and stress-free.

Liberty Moving & Storage serves the Tri-State area and has been providing international moving services for decades and offer a range of services, including packing, loading, transporting, unloading and unpacking your items at your destination.
